Today's announcement is the revelation of my latest project, "60 Seconds to Deliver!" I started this at the beginning of my Thanksgiving break, and made quite a bit of progress just over the last week-and-a-half!

This time I'm trying out the Flixel engine for Flash, which allows me to quickly get a functioning prototype and put more focus on the visual design earlier on in the development process. At the rate this is going, I actually hope to have this finished in two or three weeks.

Other projects, such as Brides of the Mertynn, have not been abandoned, and will be returned to after this is finished.

As for the last blog post, I forgot an explanatory link or two.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=206 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=206 New Names to Bring Some Edge to the Game Wed, 11 Nov 2009 20:27:56 -0500

The image of BoogaTech has always been lacking a certain edge, which is why there has been a corporate decision to improve on the edginess of this company and change our name to "EdgeTech." This edgy step in the realm of edginess symbolizes the new path of this company to create edgy titles, provide gamers with the edge they need, and someday become masters of this "edge."

Our second step is to rename the famous hit game that made us so awesome well-known and popular, "Bridges of the Mertynn," to "Edge-Spanning Architecture of the Mertynn."

Other changes will include minor things such as renaming the Sandwich Shop Ninja's workplace, "Monorail Sandwiches," to "Monorail SandwEdges."
That is all.
EdgeTech http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=205 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=205 Sketches - Summer and Fall Thu, 05 Nov 2009 19:40:58 -0500 File Size: 167.44kb

It's been a while since my last sketch book post, so here's a few sketches between August and now.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=204 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=204 October Updates Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:11:50 -0400
So apparantly I had forgotten about the nasty message the last file version of The Sandwich Shop Ninja gives when it detects that it's not on the right server, and it had been giving that message ever since I merged the TSSN website with the main BoogaTech website. The last two weeks were spent working over the database and admin panel for the backend systems of this website. I managed to cut out over 1200 lines of old, redundant code. I also made it so that some pages will display any tags a content item has if I want them to (see bottom right of this post).

Also dependent on the updates to the site is "Bridges of the Mertynn." CMExpress, the system that keeps this site running, will be used to develop the website and database that will store the user-made levels and high scores. There's still a lot of work to be done, but for your benefit and my own, I am working on a list of things to be done and will be posting that shortly.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=197 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=197 I discovered something... Fri, 17 Jul 2009 03:31:30 -0400

So I found out why I get so many people coming here looking for sandwich shops. It turns out that The Sandwich Shop Ninja is currently the second result when you search for "sandwich shop" on Google. I guess Google thinks animated ninjas who happen to own sandwich shops are more relevant to people looking for sandwich shops, maybe to eat at, than Subway and a dozen more actual, real sandwich shops?

So if you came here looking for a place to eat, uh... sorry? I don't even have any ninja sandwich recipes or anything, but I guess I could list a few sandwiches I like at various places:

Quiznos - Baja Chicken

Togos - Chipotle Roast Beef

Subway's a little different. I don't get any particular sandwich. I get a ham and bacon with pepper-jack cheese and cucumber. Lettuce is pointless on any sandwich, as it's basically just a solid green form of water. Unless it's spring mix or Romain lettuce, then it actually tastes like something besides water.

Don't buy those sandwiches on the Amtrak trains. They're way overpriced, and taste disgusting.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=196 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=196 Game Progress and Comic-Con Tue, 14 Jul 2009 03:25:05 -0400

Still making progress on my game project. The graphics are turning out nicely, though what you see is scaled down to about 75% so that it will fit in this little box thing. Drawing all those trees and grass is surprisingly time-consuming, though. It's definitely easier to draw them from a side-on perspective rather than a top-down.

Next week is the San Diego Comic-Con. This will be the second time I've gone. I leave early Thursday morning for an 11-hour drive, check in to the hotel, and hopefully get on the tram going towards the convention center and not the one that's going to the Mexico border.

Last month's search engine queries were unfortunately more of the same, for the most part. Just lost people looking for sandwitches, sandwishes, and a "ninjasandwich" stood out from the countless people on the search for sub shop designs.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=195 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=195 The Elementary School Ninja Wed, 01 Jul 2009 14:15:00 -0400 File Size: 164.77kb

Could this be a start of a new spin-off series of the ninja in his younger years?

No.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=194 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=194 RSS/Site Updates Wed, 17 Jun 2009 02:38:41 -0400
Various changes to the website coding have been made, and The Sandwich Shop Ninja website is now fully integrated with the CMExpress system that the majority of my website runs on. There are a few things missing that require more changes in CMEx before they can be reimplemented, but those are very minor. The RSS feeds now decode properly, and this should be the last time everything since 2004 is marked "new" in Google Reader.

The next news entry will be an update on the next TSSN episode's progress, though the blog will keep updating on a more frequent basis.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=193 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=193 High Definition Ninja Tue, 16 Jun 2009 12:25:46 -0400
The first episode of The Sandwich Shop Ninja can now be seen on YouTube in a high-definition format.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=192 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=192 The Sandwich Shop Utah Wed, 10 Jun 2009 17:13:24 -0400

So I guess someone came here looking for "the sandwich shop Utah" for some reason. I don't know how someone could employ an entire state to work in a sandwich shop, but whatever.

Progress on the game has gotten a bit slow as I try to get some of the graphics done and try to figure out a style that works. I tried to fake perspective on the cliff edges and pillars, but it doesn't look very good, and to make it look good would take a few months of drawing every pillar and edge at multiple angles.

http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=191 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=191 Lightning Thu, 04 Jun 2009 02:25:16 -0400 File Size: 101.85kb

There was a really cool lightning storm going on tonight.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=190 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=190 Current Project Tue, 19 May 2009 18:08:33 -0400

Flash and JavaScript are required to view this element.

Recently I've been working on a new game on my own. This is a horrible case of misinformation, as it doesn't take a scientist to tell you that this guy's closest relative is Dracula. If there wasn't a half-inch pane of glass separating him from us, he'd surely be leaping neck-to-neck as he feeds upon the blood of the living. His name? The Hyrax. A name surely derived by the sound his victims make as he sinks his teeth into their necks.

The game graphics project is down to the last two items.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=186 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=186 Search Keywords for February Fri, 13 Mar 2009 17:12:38 -0400
And here are the weird search engine queries from February:

"number one thing that makes a sandwich shop fail" - It is a statistically provable fact that all failed sandwich shops did not have a ninja employed at the time of failing.

"have you seen a ninja sandwich" - Here's a hint: if you start choking while eating a sandwich, it is possible that you are eating a "ninja sandwich." There's still a lot left to do.

As for the game graphics project, last week I completed one of the five remaining chunks of work I need to do. That leaves 4 things to do. It's looking really cool so far, and I can't wait to show what to show what we've done!

As for other things, the animation portfolio deadline is coming up. Less than six weeks to go. I also saw Coraline a few weeks ago, and it was really good. There were quite a few parents who thought it would have been a good movie to take their small children to. There's still some re-categorizing to do, and anyone who bothered to subscribe to the old RSS may need to unsubscribe and resubscribe to the desired one. Each page generates its own RSS now, so you can keep track on as little or as much as you want. Those interested on just the basic updates related to the main content of this site will probably want to subscribe to the 'News' page, and those interested in all updates may want to check out the new blog section.

The next set of website-structure updates won't come for a while. The administration panel I use to upload stuff and manage content, pages, and other settings needs to be overhauled first (again...), and I have more important things to finish up before I take on that task.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=172 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=172 An update! Wed, 04 Feb 2009 12:22:10 -0500
Things have been quiet here lately. Along with school, I've still been working on the one project with an independent game developer, though it should be nearing completion soon. I've also been making significant changes to the website coding over the past six months, and I've got enough completed of the index page that I'll be able to switch that over this weekend.

Though my class schedule this semester is way less stressful than last semester, I still have to prepare for the portfolio deadline on April 1st for the animation program. If I get progress on the Sandwich Shop Ninja episode at some point, great. I have a lot of work to do, unfortunately, and it may have to wait a bit more. Well, you've certainly come to the right place. Maybe. I don't know. You're the one thinking "Oh, hey, I want to know how to start a sandwich shop! This place titled 'The Sandwich Shop Ninja' might be a good place to look! Surely this is the best and most relevant source of information," not me.

Anyways, this is the best and most relevant source of information on starting a sandwich shop. The best one in the world. There are many things you will want to think about as you design and start up your very own sandwich shop. Some things are important to think about, some crucial, some vital, and some will leave you bleeding in a dark alley in Chicago if you don't think as carefully as necessary so you'd better think very, very, very, very carefully about everything here. You don't like bleeding, do you? Exactly.

Location

The first thing to do is rent, buy, or get a lease on a location. Location is everything, except for the things that it is not. There are good locations, and then there are bad locations. Here are a few examples of good and bad locations:

The corner of two busy streets - Good location. Busy streets mean many customers.

The mall's food court - Good location. Malls are always full of potential customers. Even during a zombie apocalypse, be it the survivors hiding in the mall, or the zombies that come in when some fool thinks its safe to go outside. Zombies love sandwiches. Brain sandwiches.

The bad part of town - Good location. Thugs, gangsters, mafia hit-men, mimes, and other various no-good-doers all love sandwiches.

The moon - good location. It is a known fact that astronauts enjoy eating delicious sandwiches.

Just Down the Street and Around the Corner - the ultimate location. Anyone can find this place from anywhere. If someone gives you the greatest sandwich of your life and you ask him where he got it, odd are he will say "just down the street and around the corner." You will follow his directions, and you will find it. Every single time.

Employees

After you have chosen a location, you will need to hire employees.

Most restaurants will do good to hire a ninja, and only one ninja. Although it would seem otherwise, efficiency and productivity decrease as the number of ninjas are severely decreased due to what is known as the Exponential Ninja Factor (ENF). If you manage to perpetuate a rivalry between the two, you may be able to avoid any ENF impacts; however, unless both ninjas are evenly equipped and skilled, you run risks of loosing an employee. Contracts with ninjas must be considered carefully. A ninja will hold his or her end of the contract with the utmost honor, even to the extent of loss of life. In fact, it is unknown if any ninja has ever survived a breach of contract. It is also important to take note that the same holds true for employers of ninjas: statistics show that out of all employers who had failed to hold their end of a contract with a ninja, 100% had met an untimely demise.
While one ninja can handle most of the workload, you will still need additional employees. Once you have hired a ninja, you will need to acquire a Ninja Ally Compatibility Table. Certain types of employees can cause disastrous results when mixed with ninjas. The NACT tends to vary between ninja clans and families, though there are a few incompatible types that are common between all. Namely: dark wizards, zombies, Michael Dudikoff, and pirates. They all mix badly with ninjas, but pirates most of all. Your sandwich shop will have a severe impact on the neighborhood's levels of swashbuckling and scurvy epidemics.

After procuring your NACT, there are a few area-specific positions you will want to have filled. Most cases deal with areas that contain larger demographics of unruly people. If you are located in one of these areas (ie: "Bad Part of Town" location), you may want to hire a polar bouncer. Nobody messes with a bouncer who is also a polar bear.

The Other Stuff

Then after you do some other stuff and get customers and all, you reap the rewards of capitalism. Congratulations, you have successfully gone from "sticking it to the man" to "the man it is being stuck to." Don't ask what "it" is. You don't want to know. Or maybe you should, since you'd have already stuck some of it.

Recap

In conclusion, the steps to sandwich shop success are:

Choose a location

Hire a ninja

???

Profit

Thank you for reading, and join us later on for "Extra-Extra-Extra-Extra-Large Tee Shirts" and "Endangered Species: The Oboe Cat."
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=148 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=148 November Update Sat, 01 Nov 2008 03:05:43 -0400
There's been a huge lapse in updates lately. Most of that is due to finding out how much time 15 credit-hours take up (18 credits if you count the artistic anatomy class that I'm 'auditing' so that I don't have to do the homework). I think the amount of time I spend on campus during the week is more than what I actually spend awake in my apartment. I realize now that 1 credit-hour is the equivalent of about 3 real-time hours. I don't remember it being this bad last semester, though. Maybe the more credit hours you take, the longer they are in real-time?

I hope to see more free time when I finish up a project next week with an independent game developer, though most of that time will probably go to studying for classes. I'd be sure to at least have something up for December 5th, the International Day of the Ninja.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=131 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=131 Time-Lapse Video: 5 Miles-per-Second Thu, 25 Sep 2008 01:25:04 -0400 Duration: 1 minute, 8 seconds
File Size: 9.49mb

I've reconsidered the current need for large file uploads. It isn't the entire trip, since my camera's batteries kept dieing and the camera's power jack input doesn't seem to work at all. Batteries are a pain to change when the battery compartment is covered by one of the zip ties holding the camera in place.

The next time I try this I will be mounting my tripod to a part of the car and sticking the camera on that. I don't know why I didn't think of it the first time through. The apartment's internet has started working, which is good. Aside from school, I've been working on a freelancing project, so I won't have much to post for a few weeks. I have a few things, but I made a few major changes to my website's coding and I have yet to find what sorts of bugs that has sprung up. I've already fixed enough so that all the old stuff still works, it's just adding new content like this post that will be affected by the changes.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=127 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=127 Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons Mon, 04 Aug 2008 02:15:37 -0400 File Size: 115.7kb

This is a 1-hour speed paint done in Photoshop inspired by Steven Reineke's "Pilatus: Mountain of Dragons." I won't go into detail about it, but I imagine there's at least one Dilbert strip that applies for what happened.

As for the other two projects, one will be completed hopefully sometime in August. I am currently modifying the content page to allow Quicktime .mov files to be displayed so that I can upload some of the pencil tests from my Intro. to Animation class.

The search queries for March were a little disappointing. Some semi-interesting ones were "sandwıch shop" and "designing a sandwich shop." I don't know how the first even worked with those funky characters, and the second has already been discussed.

After some thought, I will be adjusting the advertising on this website. The Project Wonderful ads have been pretty decent, but the Google Adsense ones haven't provided any benefit. The Google Ads will disappear, but I may place more PW ones. 2.45 cents/day is much better than nothing, and it does add up over a long amount of time, but it is only a very small fraction of what it costs to run this site.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=111 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=111 Small Changes Wed, 19 Mar 2008 12:47:57 -0400
I updated the Sandwich Shop Ninja website with a new layout.

I have also added advertising spots on both this page and the Sandwich Shop Ninja one. I at least have some control over what sites advertise on the Project Wonderful ads, and there are no pop-ups, though I can't check every detail about the sites that advertise here.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=110 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=110 March Update Wed, 12 Mar 2008 18:05:16 -0400
I guess the least I can do is upload a few sketches on occasion. I have to get my portfolio presentable for my application to get into the animation program before the 1st of April. The competition is intense, as there are, on average, 200 people applying for a program that only accepts 25 each year.

Best search engine queries of Feburary:

futuristic things - I keep getting this one at least once every few months. Clearly this site needs more futuristic things, and that will be resolved some time in the future.

games you step on - what?

I found an interesting competition running on one of the sites I check out every now and then. Basically you take a random name from a generator and create a game based on that. There are no prizes, but seeing the wacky ideas and concepts that everyone comes up with is worth it. I got the randomized video game title "Galactic Kangaroo Fiasco." I'm not sure how far I'll get in programming this before the competition is over, but I'll probably work on it off-and-on throughout the year. The world will see the Galactic Kangaroo Fiasco and learn to fear the creatures of down under. Even when I get free time, the next episode of The Sandwich Shop Ninja will have a higher priority. I seriously need to get that thing done. Here's a brief story concept:

"You return to your home planet Austrialeraan of the Down Underian System for a barbie with your mates, only to find your home planet in ruins! Mad as a cut snake, you grab your trusty boomer- ang, head out of your ship, and begin your search for the fruit loop responsible. You gaze into the great expanse of the outback and pause as a mob of roo's stare right back at you. They know something you don't..."
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=109 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=109 Sketch Book Page - Creature Things Wed, 12 Mar 2008 17:16:16 -0400 File Size: 178.6kb

Various creatures that don't really exist, like a six-legged mountain deer-thing that eats twigs and leaves, a creepy gnomeish thing, and some other thing.

http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=108 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=108 Sketch Book Page - Even More Hands Wed, 12 Mar 2008 17:10:41 -0400 File Size: 230.29kb

They are my own.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=107 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=107 Sketch Book Page - More Hands Wed, 12 Mar 2008 17:01:35 -0400 File Size: 262.01kb

They are not yours.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=106 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=106 Sketch Book Page - Hands Wed, 12 Mar 2008 16:59:22 -0400 File Size: 221.3kb

These hands are small, I know.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=105 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=105 Search Queries of the Month for January Sat, 02 Feb 2008 00:56:00 -0500
Another month has gone by, and I have collected a few more search engine queries that people have entered and somehow referred to my website.

down to the village with a boomstick in his hand - I know what this would link to, but why would anyone search for this?

How to design a sandwich shop - This is a good question. How would one go about designing a sandwich shop? Fortunately for that one random person, I can help!

The first thing you want to do is find a good available location to start up. The next thing would be supplies. These would be as many sharp utensils you can find. You will need a variety of knives for cutting meat, vegetables, bread, pirates, and other things.

You will also want to hire employees. You should only need one ninja. Hiring more than one is usually to your disadvantage as if they work together the "inverse ninja law" comes into effect, decreasing productive output. One way of countering this is to create a rivalry between multiple ninjas, though you may have to hire often as this may end in bloody results. It is also a bad idea to offend the ninja workers union. Any affiliation with pirates will terminate any contracts or agreements that you have made with any hired ninjas along with your life.

In conclusion, we have the following steps to success:

Lease store location.

Hire a ninja.

????

Profit.

...and there we have it, "how to design a sandwich shop!" I've been spending most of my time between classes doing reading for those classes. This week I get to read a 300 page book for History, to an essay on it, and read a chapter out of two different text books for the same class! Yay! I haven't checked the syllabuses for my other classes yet, but I imagine I have reading from their respective textbooks as well. I got halfway done with the wallpaper, and then Flash crashed. I didn't have time to redo it, so I worked on my final projects for school. The illustration is mostly done, just missing a few background characters that I didn't do to save time and get it printed before it was due. The 3D Maya class final is... well, the last day we couldn't do anything because the school decided to turn off the license server, so the lab computers couldn't even load Maya. My tablet PC had Maya, and could render, but a single frame took 45 minutes to render.

Then, somehow, my tablet PC ended up with a huge gash in the bottom, and cracks around the battery compartment. The screen is okay, except for the known dirt-inside-the-screen problem that had been gradually coming back, but the main hardware section bends along the middle. I'm not sure how this could have happened as the largest crack looks like somebody tried to impale it with a lead pipe, or something. The computer seems to function properly for now, but I can't back up anything or turn it on due to another problem entirely: the power adapter broke again. It seems the wire used in it just isn't fit for transportation, as it keeps breaking apart. I'll be able to fix it quickly, and I'll have things backed up before Wednesday.

Now if the laptop ends up dead? I have experience with getting files of dead hard drives that have had their casing opened up leaving the platters exposed to the unsterilized, dust-filled air. I've got a few things that I've been working on, such as the last illustration for a class, a quick run cycle I started last week, a portfolio redesign, and a desktop wallpaper for December 5th, the Day of the Ninja.

That's right, this Wednesday is the 5th annual celebration of Day of the Ninja! Its the day to be sneaky, quiet, and dress in black! To celebrate, I will be uploading a Sandwich Shop Ninja-themed desktop wallpaper.

Last month's search queries were more of the same from October, but the one new one makes up for the lack of variation. Last months weirdest search engine query goes to "hold your wee for a wii." I have no clue as to how this phrase in a search engine returned to any of my websites. Also, don't drink too much water, people. You'll die a painful death.

As for when I think things will get finished, wallpaper on Wednesday, illustration by the end of this week, portfolio probably by the end of next week, along with the run-cycle test animation. I'll probably be busy on things before Christmas, and after I'll be packing to go to Utah in January. I haven't had a chance to work on the "next episode" since mid-October, and I can't say when it will be done, but I hope to get working on it again soon.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=95 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=95 Peregrine Falcon Sat, 10 Nov 2007 03:31:10 -0500 File Size: 983.04kb

Jet-propelled biplanes would be awesome.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=94 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=94 Plotting Coyote Sun, 28 Oct 2007 23:23:06 -0400 File Size: 214.5kb

Another Illustration class project.

Coyote, the trickster, is plotting to steal some fire from the fire spirits and give it to the humans. Work at my other job takes up a lot of time and school starts up again next week, so it will be interesting to see if I can get anything done.

Hopefully I will get it done this year. I'm still working on the background for Section 7. I leave for San Diego Comic-Con tomorrow, and won't be back until Saturday.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=85 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=85 Weekly Update Sun, 22 Jul 2007 02:41:47 -0400

I thought I'd add an image to help show where I'm at with the episode. It does not include things like sound effects and music, which will be done after all the coloring is done.

I finished the animation for Section 6, and am now working on the background for Section 7. Section 8 is going to be a long and difficult scene to do, which is why the storyboard isn't done for it. I know where I want to go with it, it's just that huge parts of it have to be done before I can even start thinking of how the character animation will go.

San Diego Comic-Con is next week. I'll be there Thursday and Friday, so my next update will probably be next Wednesday.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=84 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=84 This week has not ended yet Sun, 15 Jul 2007 01:52:13 -0400
And the promised weekly update continues! I completed the core animation for section 5 on Monday, and started work on 6 of about 12. I didn't make as much progress as I'd have liked to, since I had to book a flight and hotel for San Diego. That was a nightmare and a half (theres a 70-mile difference between SAN and SNA...). That's all over and done with, so now I have a week and a half to get as much animation done as I can before the convention.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=83 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=83 Things are working again, for now Fri, 06 Jul 2007 02:46:46 -0400

I've devised a sort of work-around with the tablet, allowing me to continue progress with the next episode of The Sandwich Shop Ninja. If I send the laptop into standby before shutting the lid when I need to leave the tablet for any amount of time, the tablet part keeps working. Otherwise, shutting the lid while the laptop's still on, even for a split second, will stop the tablet from working and require me to restart the laptop.

The current schedule: most animation done before San Diego Comic Con, full animation released near the end of August. I'm still on the accursed Section 5, but I'm hoping to finish it off tomorrow. The next few sections should be less painful to get through.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=82 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=82 dear toshiba: what is this? Oh, man, was I wrong. I was so wrong. I have a new, more wondrous problem with my tablet, now! After running for a bit, the tablet part of the PC just stops working, and the only way to get it working again is to restart the entire computer.

Toshiba, I had one of your laptops years ago, and everything functioned perfectly at 8 years old. What happened? The whole "biometric thumb scanner" not working after turning the laptop into tablet mode was tolerable, , I could ignore that a small plastic piece would occasionally pop off when I turned the screen around, the dirt getting into the screen was tolerable to an extent, but the ceased function of the key defining feature of the tablet, of which I made the purchase for? What the heck did you guys do?
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=81 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=81 Latest updates Sat, 23 Jun 2007 00:16:03 -0400
I got my laptop back today and the screen is nice and clean! Hopefully this screen manifold won't screw up like the last one did.

I also completed the new site design! Well, almost. All that is left is the RSS feed. The store and forum will be opened when the next episode of The Sandwich Shop Ninja is finally complete. The demand for a forum is currently non-existent, so no point in rushing to complete the layout.

My current goal is this: finish all animation before Comic-Con. This is going to be tough, as there is one hugely complex scene that will take time to do, but will look really cool when it is finished. After Comic-Con, color and shade all frames, add sounds, compose music, and release.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=80 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=80 Worms Armageddon Map Pack 1 Wed, 20 Jun 2007 23:22:23 -0400 File Size: 184.1kb

3 custom maps for Worms Armageddon. The screen has accumulated so much dirt underneath the protective layer that it just needed to be cleaned out. I am really unhappy about this blatant design flaw Toshiba has seemingly chosen to ignore. From what I have heard from other users, the fix is only temporary. I will keep having to send it in to get it cleaned out. The warranty expires this year. I may have to resort to selling my current tablet PC and saving up for a new one.

From my estimates, this will push the next episode clear into August. I guess I have time to do the redesign now instead of waiting until the next episode is done. I'll release it in the next few days. Probably won't get my laptop back until next Tuesday, anyway.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=77 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=77 Another Stab at Weekly Updates Wed, 13 Jun 2007 03:28:22 -0400
Hello again. It's mid-June. The next episode has progressed very little. I am still unsuccessful in finding a different job. We still have not colonized the moon. Moon bases would be completely awesome. Why is everyone so against it?

Next episode progress: 2/3rds complete of the animation of section 5 of a total of 12 sections. I'm going to try to get this one done this week. I'll be assembling a personal schedule of what I want to get done when, and posting more detailed information of when things might come out in the close future. This section of my website needs a change as well. The redesign will bring this out of it's Flash confines and into rich, search-engine-friendly HTML, add some RSS functionality, and a look based on the design of my portfolio. I'm also sick of mucking around in SQL tables every time I screw up the post. I really need to program an edit function into the new design.

In the meantime, fill out the T-Shirt Survey and see a small preview of the next episode!
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=76 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=76 Speedpaint in GIMP Wed, 13 Jun 2007 02:48:01 -0400 File Size: 90.94kb

A speed paint done in GIMP. I've been meaning to upload some of the things I did for a college art class I took a year ago, but I don't have a scanner big enough to scan them in. I finally broke down and used my digital camera, which is why they don't have the best lighting possible. Along with those I uploaded a few pages of my sketchbook, which is small enough to fit on my scanner.

The next episode of The Sandwich Shop Ninja is still at where I left it a week ago, unfortunately. I upgraded the hard drives on my tower, and just made a clean install instead of straight-copying everything over. I do use my laptop for most of the work, but I lost a bit of time trying to find all my driver CD's.

I spent last Thursday figuring out how to get a partition to run Fedora 5. I have mixed feelings about Linux. It's not very user-friendly, and my sound card is unsupported. I still haven't checked to see if I can get Wacom tablet support. Plus, there's not really much to do with it. Adobe doesn't seem to want to make their programs Linux compatible. If Blender is any good, however, I'll probably use it for 3D stuff.

I guess that's all for this week. I did see the new Shrek movie. I thought it was good. It has to be done enough to submit to the animation festival at my school by the 6th of April, so expect to see it released some time mid-to-late April.

Since I need to do a lot to get this finished in 7 weeks, I will be heavily limiting my Internet time until it's released. After this update, expect there to only be two more updates until the new toon is released. The Gallery page seems to have exploded for some reason, but that will be fixed today after I get some sleep. The blank bars will remain empty until I create enough content to put stuff on them. I was unable to work on my current animation projects for an entire week due to school and work, so that will delay my previous estimations of by about a week or two, with the collaboration piece nearing completion this week, and "Can Story" being completed some where around the 17th of May. If I get the time, I might make the page I've been meaning to make for my 1988 Macintosh SE that now runs at 1.8 ghz. :D

Now for the good thing. During last year, I lost most of my work when my laptop's hard drive kicked the bucket. Last month I had found the old hard drive and attempted to see if anything was recoverable. After failing to get the BIOS to even recognize the drive, I figured I might as well open up the thing and figure out what the cause of it's clinking noise was. Turns out, the cable I used to plug the drive into the motherboard was screwy, so I had ended up exposing the innards of my hard drive to the dusty air when it might have been working the entire time. I hooked the hard drive back up, booted up the system, and lo-and-behold, computer detected the hard drive. I downloaded a trial of GetData's "Recover My Files" and waited to see if it could even find anything on the hard drive. Incredibly, I was able to get complete files off the hard drive that were intact and without corruption. I was able to copy the entire contents of My Documents over to the working drive, and now I have everything I had previously thought was gone forever! I'll upload a few things worth showing to the Animation Scraps section.
http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=39 http://blog.boogatech.com?p=16&c=39 Multimedia Project: Flash Techniques Sun, 09 Apr 2006 19:01:53 -0400 File Size: 241.48kb

This is an old file I found on my laptop's corrupted hard drive. I will then work on another piece for the Altered Reality collaboration I was in, since someone dropped out and they really want to get it done, and that should take one week, two weeks tops. After that, I'll work on finishing "Can Story," which is currently about 1/4th animated. I originally hoped to have it done by the end of this month, but now it's looking more like mid-April.
